How much does hay cost on average at the moment in qld, australia?

around the brisbane area.

if anyone has some average prices that would be much appreciated. any info on any type of hay would be great - just a ball park figure.

  1. Here is an April ad for Rhodes grass hay I found if that helps. The guy is asking $50 (Aussie dollars) per bale and so these are large rounds but he doesn't specify the size or weight of the bales. Round bales here in the states mostly range from 4X5 to 5X6 in size and 800 to 1200 pounds or more in weight. Assuming these are 4X5 bales weighing approximately 900 lbs that would be about $110 per ton. Small square bales would cost at least 60% more per ton because of the higher cost to put it up, so the price of small square bales would be about $180 per ton, or about $4.50 per 50 lb bale. This is a very rough estimate but it is a "ball park figure." And I'm sure prices vary by region in Australia as much as they do here in the states. Also remember that this was an April ad and that would be mid-autumn in Australia. It's mid-winter there now an so hay prices have risen since this ad ran.
