  2. Cars cost more with all the Value Added taxes than in USA.

Cost of milk - We don't drink milk

Current gas prices - $4 per gallon

Good safe hotels - Mexico is a big country and there are a lot of good safe hotels that are not as expensive.

Do not miss: Depends are where you are.

Currency: Use your debit card in Mexico - get the best exchange rate as long as you use a bank machne affiliated with your bank - e.g. Interac.  Money is requested and received in pesos with the max daily at 3000 or 4000 pesos.

You MUST buy Mexican car insurance to travel in Mexico and your must present your papers upon request.  You can purchase at the border towns - eg Nogales.

It is safe to travel in the Daytime on the Toll roads.  As an example the toll road from Nogales to Mazatlan would cost you 650-700 pesos.

  3. I can answer a few of your questions. I would suggest Peoples Guide to Mexico as the ultimate guide. Buy it, read it

How much would you pay for a Olds Pacifia in Mexico? A Chevy Equinox? no idea, cars are generally more expensive although we have many different models not found in the states.  If you drive in with a car, you are expected to drive it back out. Not doing so can mess up your visa. Be very careful about buying a car.

How much is a gallon of milk in Mexico? food a little less but not a lot less. I don't buy much milk so I don't know

What are the current gas prices in Mexico? about $2.50 gal

What is a good safe hotel that isnt a big expensive resort or chain? where, Mexico is a big country??? Get one of the Moon Guides for the area where you are going.

What should i NOT miss while visiting Mexico? I love the central highlands, Jalisco,  Michoacán, and Oaxaca. Copper Canyon is lovely and amazing and not a long drive from the US

Do alot of people speak English? My Spanish isnt so great anymore? Only in tourist towns, otherwise no. In general Mexican people are very gracious and will try hard to understand your Spanish

Anybody ever convert and buy currency from XE.com? Is it a good deal/company? never heard of them, I wouldn't bother with an online source. Every bank will convert money or ask for the closest casa de cambio

Do you have to have Mexico Car insurance to drive in Mexico? I read last night that you do. Absolutely! Lewis & Lewis is good

How safe is it to travel to Mexico? What are the safest places?   I have driven alone and with my husband many thousands of miles without a problem. Avoid Mexico City at all costs - driving there is horrid! Stay on the toll roads (cuota) except for specific stops. The libre are usually poorly maintained but sometimes more fun

  4. How much would you pay for a Olds Pacifia in Mexico? A Chevy Equinox?--Cars are more expensive in Mexico, you'll get a better bargain in the states.

How much is a gallon of milk in Mexico?--don't know.

What are the current gas prices in Mexico?--About a dollar-fifty cheaper for Magna Sin (regular), but Pemex is raising the price in the border towns because so many people are crossing the border just to fill up.

What is a good safe hotel that isnt a big expensive resort or chain?--Click the first link below to read reviews of my favorite hotel on the Riviera Maya in Tulum (two hours south of Cancun).

What should i NOT miss while visiting Mexico?--If you go to the Riviera Maya (the coast from Cancun to Tulum), don't miss:

    Chichen Itza

    Xcaret

    Xelha

    Tulum ruins

    Coba ruins

    Sian Ka'an Biosphere

Do alot of people speak English? My Spanish isnt so great anymore?--All along the Riviera Maya, many people speak English, their economy is tied to making the gringos happy. But it can't hurt to brush up you Espanol.

Anybody ever convert and buy currency from XE.com? Is it a good deal/company?--No never.  It's just easier to take you ATM card and wihdraw money from your bank account as you need it.

Do you have to have Mexico Car insurance to drive in Mexico? I read last night that you do. Yes, if you're bringing your own car across the border.  If you fly in and rent a car there, the insurance is in the rental policy.  If you're driving in, you can get coverage just for the day you expect to be in country.  See the Sanborn link below.

How safe is it to travel to Mexico?--I've driven through 18 of the 31 states and never had a problem--except for a scratched fender in a hotel parking lot.

What are the safest places?--Probably Cancun is the safest City, but they're all pretty much safe as long as you use the same common sense that you would in Washington DC (don't get drunk and stagger down a dark alley).

Feel free to email me if you have more questions.

  5. I will hit the questions I know about.....cars cost more in Mexico and you can't take a Mexican car back to the states...won't meet the pollution standards...as well as laws about importing vehicles.  Milk is sold by the litre  which is about the same as a quart...price is about the equivilant of $1.00usd. per litre.  Gas currently costs about the sme as $2.80 a gallon.  There are plenty of small local hotels in every city that are inexpensive and safe...tourist cities , of course, are far more expensive.    In Mexico City, a great, inexpensive, safe, nice place is Casa Gonzales...see 1st site below.  You MUST have mexican car insurance...see 2nd website for my favorite place...very economical. Do NOT convert money before coming to Mexico.  Use your ATM card here...you will get the best exchange rate.  Get past the border area quickly and you will be perfectly safe...I am an American woman living alone in Mexico and know many others...we travel and drive all over Mexico without problems.  Just use your common sense like in the U.S.  You will also need a car permit...see 3rd site.  And, a Mexican road atlas, the Guia Roji...which you can buy at big book stores or order on Amazon.com.  Not too many speak English, but most people will be as helpful and kind to you as they can be.
