How much does it cost (approx.) to raise roof of house?

We looked at a house today, and its perfect! Except for the fact that the roof is abit low. My boyfriend is 6'5", and can stand at the points in the middle of the 2 rooms that IS the upstairs, I have no problems really. But, if we'd be able to buy this at a resonable price, I feel as though it'd be a great investment, and worth it...but how much would it be to raise the roof on this 1000 sq.foot cape cod? Any approximates are appreciated. Thanks!

Two things to think about, one is when you raise a roof you are talking about either adding hight to the walls which would effect the wiring so you have the cost of that as well as the cost of materials (siding, plywood, insulation etc.).. the other thing you could do is change the pitch of the roof which would give you a higher ceiling in more then just the center. Either way it is going to be several thousands of dollars if not up to 20. You might be better off to keep looking for another house.

depending on where you are the cost would be 45 to 85 dollars per square foot if the hole house is 1000 sq.ft. the upstairs is probably 500x85.00= 42500 would be on the high side for the project

You need to call a contractor in your area for a estimate.  I would guess at $50000 and up, you are talking about large project,  raising ceiling height.
