it would help a lot to know what city you are in

in some cities (like DC the taxis are on a zone system

in others they might go by mileage and in others by a meter

and then still others might even have a flat rate

it all depends where u live- call ur local cab/taxi company(s) located in the phone book and ask. Tell them where u r and where u want 2 go- ask for a price & u'll get ur answer.

Unfortunately most taxis run on a meter and they are not forthright about how much they actually charge per mile.  I notice when I ride in a cab that the meter seems to run up rather quickly so I think they charge by the 1/4 mile in the ones I've been in.  You can call the cab company and ask for an estimate.  Some of them will give you one and some will just say "we run on a meter."
