I want to now how much dogs cost vetwise. Like all of the main shots and the lesser shots. Also how much does it usually cost to spay/ neture? It would help if you are a vet.

  1. Depends on where you go and the quality of care. The shots I just got finished with were probably around $64 each or so, $192 for four sets of three shots. The estimate for neutering him was more than $400 with all the blood work and anesthesia and stuff.

It really depends. Call your local vets and find out in your area.

  2. If your looking for a dog your best bet is to adopt one the animal shelter gives the dog all the shots it needs andspayes/neuteres the dog.

Its way cheeper in the long run.

  3. For spaying/neutering is around 150$-250$ shots can get up too 150 plus you pay like 35 for just coming in

  4. Yearly examinations run me about $200 each adult dog.

Puppies are over $500 their first year.

of course you always have the possibility of an emergency situation. My dog got an infection a few weeks ago and it was a $420 emergency vet bill.  A few years ago one of my dogs became very sick and cost me over six thousand dollars in medical expenses...

  5. Prices vary a lot from area and area. People often ask for prices on here but it's kind of pointless when you could just pick up the phone to some local vets and get actual prices instead of guesses.

Neutering is $50-$300 depending on whether male or female, vaccination can be anything from $20-$90 a year. There's also flea and worming to consider, this can cost $5-$20 a month depending on size of dog. Just call vets!!

  6. If money is an issue, take your dog to a low cost spay/neuter clinic - they do vaccinations too.

Here it is Petluv, call your Humane Society to find out where to go in your vicinity.

By the way, if you are very short of money, please understand that dogs cost money if you are to take care of them responsibly.   It isn't just the vaccinations and spay/neuter, they need decent dry kibble, monthly heartworm, flea and tick preventatives.

If you are short of money right now, why not wait until you are more able to care for a dog.  It isn't fair to get one and then let it get sick or die because you can't afford vetting or preventatives - or even decent dry.

  7. call your local vets and ask. the biggest difference is usually the office fee.

i had a vet that charged 60.00 to walk in the door. the vet i have now is 35.00. plus whatever i'm there for.

they charge 100.00 for spay, 75.00 for neuter.

Ryansmom is absolutely correct. i adopted a young dog from a kill shelter in OH and for 90.00 he had all his shots, neutered and transported.

  8. It is obvious that you are a kind and considerate person. You are asking questions before you get a dog. There a so many people who buy dogs and then find that they cannot cope with the expense. Dogs can be a HUGE expense.

It would help us all if we had lots of vets on this forum. I believe that we have one very helpful vet, her name is Laura. I have had dogs for over forty years and until my present  dog the cost of veterinary treatment was never an issue, I rarely visited the vets.

Hanna my German Shepherd has had lots of problems, thankfully I am insured. Regardless of this I would have been financially capable of coping with this, however insurance is a great help.

There are other expenses to be considered. Puppies will poo and pee on  the carpets, they will chew everything in sight and they make a noise. If you live in rented accommodationon the other tenants will complain and you could be evicted. New accomodation is difficult to find if you have a dog in tow and you will have to pay for any damage to your original accomodation.  Your social life will be always limited and if you want a holiday you must pay to have your dog looked after. If you are on a budget, don't get a dog.

  9. If you are worried about costs, don't get a Chihuahua. They are a ton of money because they get sick all the time and be in life threatening after they get certain shots.

  10. I am not a vet but I do have quite a few animals. For basic vet care for a dog..

Most vets charge anywhere from a 30 to 45 dollar office visit charge

For the shots, you need to have the distemper, rabies, parvo and corona which will run about 15 a shot. Bordatella is optional and really only recommend if you plan to board your pup or you foster other dogs. There is a lyme vaccine as well that is optional along with heartworm testing. Basically, you are looking at about 100.00 or more for a yearly visit with shots.

As for spaying or nuetering, the most cost effective would be to go to your local animal shelter and purchase a spay/nueter certificate. That runs about 50 to 65 depending on if you have a male or femal dog. If you go to your vet, you are looking at about 200.00 maybe more.

Petco holds monthly shot clinics where a vet comes and will administer the basic shots for a cost of 49.00, if you want a heartworm test, the total will be 64 which includes the heartworm test and all shots needed.
