  1. This completely depends on your lifestyle, but in general Oslo is a bit more expensive than other parts of Norway.  It's actually rated as the most expensive city to live in by The Economist:

Rental rates will vary depending on how much space you need and where you want to live. An unfurnished 40-50m² 2-room apartment will usually cost around Kr. 7,000-12,000 /month, depending on the neighborhood.  I would recommend looking at listings on http://www.finn.no to get an idea of rental options and prices.

Food is ridiculously expensive if you eat out. At an inexpensive restaurant, a simple meal can easily cost Kr.150 or more.  There are a few less expensive options like kebabs that can be had for Kr.50-75, but you'll probably be cooking at home most of the time. You can save a lot of money by choosing inexpensive options like fish and vegetarian meals, since meat is quite pricey.

A good way to get an idea of food prices is to browse the online advertisements from the local supermarkets.  Of course, the prices listed are specials and sales, but they can give you a good idea of the general price range of different foods:

Despite the high ticket cost, public transportation is still the cheapest and most efficient way to get around. Owning a car involves fuel, parking rental, congestion tolls, etc, and the transit system is quite comprehensive. The cost of a monthly pass just dropped to Kr.550, making it even more cost-effective.

The University of Oslo has some basic information for prospective students about budgets and cost of living that you might find helpful, though there are some student concessions involved in their figures:

  2. Hi,

I am living in Haugesund in Norway on the west coast.

The live is really expensive there but if you have a job you'll make a lot of money.

For your appartment you should count on 7000 or 8000 Kronner for something nice for a month but you can find for 5000.

Transport is also expensive, cars and gasoline are more expensive there then anywhere else so the bus ticket in town for exemple is around 25 Kronner or 3 euro.

the food more it's unhealthy more it's expensive, a meny macdo 10 or 12  euro for exemple.

Alcool is super super expensive so bring some with you.

Cigerets are super expensive so if you smoke bring some too.

Otherwise all the rest is around 20 pourcents more expensive then in france and so maybe 10 more then in england.

I was working in finance in france so i had a good salary but my life is 100 times more easy here.

I love this country and i will never go back in France.
