I need it taken up a couple inches and probably in some at the bust...

Is there any tips for when I go to get this done? Such as wearing my shapewear and shoes??

  1. There is no 'average' cost.  Dress design can make what is simple on one dress, several hours work on another.   Bring whatever you will wear for the dress.  Since I don't know anything about where you live or the dress you have, estimate $100.

  2. It completely depends on the dress style, the fabric, and how much is being done to alter it. My mom is a tailor (alterations shop owner) and this is why I know!

Most tailor shops will tell you that they won't give you a price for alterations until they actually see the dress (because of the above factors). If you have a simple dress & common fabric, you can expect to pay at least $50 to get it altered. You can check on places like craigslist for people who may do this in their home and charge less.

Definitely take everything with you that you will wear with that dress, including shapewear, bra, shoes, etc. If the length is being hemmed you need to have the shoes. Good luck!

  3. Yes you definitely should wear ur shapewear and shoes. Probably it will cost around 25 to 35 dollars, my sister's prom dress needed to be taken in like 2 an a half inches and the hem also needed work and at a drycleaners they charged me around 28 dollars. Hope that helps!!
