  1. My best friend adopted thru foster care in our state and she said there was only a $50.00 fee.  She now has two beautiful little boys!  good luck

  2. Most states allow you to adopt for free.  I've adopted 5 children and haven't spent out anything.

  3. In Texas, it's FREE if:

    1)  the child is at least 2 and a minority, or

    2)  you are adopting siblings (2 or more children related to each other)

    3)  the child has a disability or some sort

Look into it in your state... I would imagine it would be similar.  Best wishes!!!!

  4. Nothing. In fact, sometimes you will get a stipend (in other words they will pay you) just for adopting the child.

  5. nothing. a lot of your love and patience.

  6. PRACTICALLY FREE!

We completed the process under $500 and they will reimburse those expenses with the adoption is finalized.

Adopt from the foster system there are SO MANY children waiting to come home. You can specify your needs and desires in becoming a family. I have three beautiful new girls. My girl friend has a blond haired blue eyed infant and a toddler as well. All our children are well and from the foster system.  I would suggest finding a private agency that works with the county. You will get better "service" and their reimbursement rates are higher than going directly to the county.

  7. It really is dependent on your state foster care program.  I am amazed when people say it didn't cost them anything because there are still legal fees associated with finalization and while our adoption did not go through the foster care system, it was my understanding that there were still fees associated with becoming approved to foster if that was what we chose.  Granted, it was not the expense that a private or agency adoption would have been, but there were fees.

Check with your local Dept of Human Services Children & Youth Division for more info.

    Good luck to you.

  8. It depends on your state, your 'needs', and who you adopt.  Our state will generally cover most of the costs and reimburse you for many others expenses (like your lawyer) if you can show a financial need or if you adopt harder to place kids (older, ethnic, siblings, etc).  And, they still offer substancial help even if you don't meet these criteria.

Also, even though you didn't spend any money on the adoption, you are still eligible for the federal income tax credit of $10K.

Yes, there is a lot of paper work, but it is (I believe) the best way to adopt.
