How much does it cost to blacktop a driveway?

I have a driveway that has already been blacktopped. Some of the old needs to be patched and then the whole thing needs a new layer of blacktop. Is this much cheaper than replaceing the whole thing? Most of our estimates to completly replace it have been about $4,000.

and the size of your driveway is?   I would jump at 4 grand for my driveway.  

Does this include removal and repair of the existing base?  This is the best method, better than patch work.

I would suggest that the people that gave you the estimate for replacement could also tell you the cost of patch and resurface.
