  4. Alaska Railroad bought new Bilevel high end train cars for 3.58 million a piece. Ontario's GO Transit bought 27 passenger cars at 4.1 million a piece.

    So brand new they're about 1 to 4 million per car.

    Not sure of the lease price.

  5. The range is very broad, because they come in all ages and conditions.  You can buy a typical passenger car for $30,000 or so, but you can also spend a quarter of a million on a newer executive car in good condition.

    You also need to be prepared to spend a bunch of money on required maintenance and inspections.  The FRA is insistent about these things.

    There are a number of brokers that have cars of all kinds for sale or lease.  An internet search on "railroad car for sale" should get you started.
