How much does it cost to buy things needed to begin living alone?

Question

Like mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, a bed, plungers, silverware, a small refrigerator, possibly a t.v and coach. If it helps I plan on living in Washington in a small 1 bed 1 bath apartment

The dollar store has a lot of c**p, but a lot of useful things too (like utensils, cleaning supplies, towels, oven mitts, etc)  I still use my dollar store knives I got 6+ years ago.

Depends on the quality of stuff you buy.  Check the local want ads for things like small appliances, bed frames (not mattresses), etc.  Buy your mattress new (they range anywhere from $100 to over $2000).  Go to a large cheap box store (Wal-Mart, etc.) for your kitchen goods.

All told, if you take a little time and shop wisely, you can get everything you need for, say, under $1,000 (don't forget cooking utensils unless you plan on eating out every night).

One of the best places to go for some of the things you need is a legitimate dealer of used items, such as Goodwill Industries.  You can buy used items like that are in good shape, at a deep discount.  

When you are a little better off, then you can donate some of the used items back. You can help someone else get started.

Now is a great time to start a budget.  For rich or poor it's important to compare your expenses to you income.  Don't forget to include some form of entertainment or you'll blow money meant for a bill.  It could be for books to read or cable TV or even movie money for dates.  It can be for anything you like but you need to work it into your budge or I can guarantee you will spend something you haven't accounted for.  If not insured, set aside money for that.  If driving, set aside money for gas.
