  1. Well, first, be very careful.  Hydrogen has the largest "explosion limits" of any known gas.  Hydrogen can explode when mixed with air as low as 4 vol% and as high as 76 vol%.  

    Also, hydrogen is a very light weight molecule, thus most compressors designed for air or nitrogen would have a tough time compressing hydrogen.  Also, compressing hydrogen to usable pressure requires significant cooling.  

    I guess the bottom line is that I would not suggest you try this at home.  Please leave this to the professionals!

    Disclaimer - I am not an expert in this, so I could be totally wrong.

I think you need something weird like a turbo-pump to compress hydrogen; I'm fairly sure that a regular sort of compressor won't do it because of all the sealing difficulties.  Most people don't compress explosive gases at home, and I'll bet your local authorities would take an immediate interest in the enterprise.  Your neighbors sure would.
