My kitten has recently taken a liking to scratching the heck out of our couch and I would like her declawed. My question is how much is it to have all 4 of her paws declawed. And my other question is it possible to declaw a cat yourself because I'm a little tight on money at the moment and don't feel like putting down more than $30 to have her declawed. If it is possible to do yourself please give me detailed instructions on how to do it. Thanks!

  1. omg why would you do that?

please dont go near the cat yourself as cats claws are not like dogs.  they had a blood supply the whole way through and you will put the cat in agony! PLEASE call a vet for advice.

In my opinion a cats claws are there identity and their survival! ITs only a kitten now so buy a scratch post  and encourage it to use that instead!!

  2. I seriously hope you are trying to be funny here. Even if you are, it's a very POOR attempt at humor!

It's bad enough when people want to declaw a cats front paws, but to do all FOUR? How maddening would it be to you, if you couldn't scratch yourself when you had an itch?

Declaw surgeries are illegal in many countries, it's a shame the USA and the rest of the world haven't caught up to this thinking.

I assisted ONE declaw surgery when I was still a Vet Tech, and told them they could fire me if they want but I REFUSED to assist another. Not only is it a greusome surgery, but the recovery is long and horrible for the cat. They cry even with the pain meds and usualy rip the bandages off to l**k their mutilated feet. And they can't avoid walking on those poor tortured toes of theirs. How would you feel having your feet and hands mutilated like that? For what, furniture?

Invest in Soft Paws or put double stick tape on the areas she is scratching. Use water bottles to discourage scratching on furniture. Buy scratching posts.

If you cannot live with the actions of cats (scratching is one of them) then perhaps a cat is not the pet for you. Many rescue organizations have it written into their adoption papers that if you have the cat declawed not only will the take the cat back from you, they will take you to court for violation of the contract.

Be a responsible owner and love your kitty. Don't punish her for doing something that is natural to her. Cats can be trained not to scratch your furniture.

  3. Declawing is a major surgery, and NO you cannot do it yourself.  I would try a different method of training (yes, you can train cats) before doing this.

  4. I hope this is a tasteless idea of a joke. Otherwise, please give this cat to someone else. There are ways to teach her not to scratch, and that will cost you nothing. Trim her nails (only the tips) with a nailclipper, every 2-3 weeks, and whenever she scratches something she must not, grab her gently from the nck, say no, and put her on a scrtaching surface. Declawing is not on;y cruel, but she may start pooping outside the litterbox and /or biting. You will NOT like that. As for declawing yourself, that is an awful torturing thing even to think about it. Are you a criminal or just an idiot?

Also check out www.softpaws.com. Easy, painless and cheap way to keep her claws soft (claw caps).

  5. who ever thinks of declawing a cat THEMSELVES is nuts!!! its already painful when done buy a vet, but to do it yourself is equal to ripping of the edges of your fingers, with no cast, and having to paw at sand after using the restroom!!!  try kitten mittens from the pet store or getting a scratching post. also, you cant declaw a kitten until they're AT LEAST  4-5 months old.

  6. NO NO NO! Don't ever try to declaw a cat yourself! Try putting clear tape on the areas where the kitten scratches, it should stop after that. if it doesnt, spray it with a water bottle. try different things like that for a while, and if she doesnt stop i suppose you could declaw her. declawing is very unnecessary and very painful. I suggest not declawing if you really love you kitty.

  7. First, you don't need to have her declawed and it will most certainly be more than  $30!

They actually cut into part of the bone of the toe!!

I just trim my kitty's nails twice a month to keep them short.

I will attach an article...it give you the low down on declawing and solutions to scratching..I didn't copy the whol article but gave you the address at the end

    Enjoy that kitty...bet she's cute!

    Best Wishes,

    Pat

If you are considering declawing your cat, please read this. It will only take a moment, and it will give you valuable information to help you in your decision.

Before you make the decision to declaw your cat, there are some important facts you should know. Declawing is not like a manicure. It is serious surgery. Your cat's claw is not a toenail. It is actually closely adhered to the bone. So closely adhered that to remove the claw, the last bone of your the cat's claw has to be removed. Declawing is actually an amputation of the last joint of your cat's "toes". When you envision that, it becomes clear why declawing is not a humane act. It is a painful surgery, with a painful recovery period. And remember that during the time of recuperation from the surgery your cat would still have to use its feet to walk, jump, and scratch in its litter box regardless of the pain it is experiencing. Wheelchairs and bedpans are not an option for a cat.

I have also had people tell me that their cat's personality changed after being declawed. Although, the medical community does not recognize this as potential side effect.

For the solutions go to: catscratching.com

  8. Do not declaw your cat, it is quite inhumane, even if a vet does it - NEVER try to do it yourself.

Use a squirt bottle and teach your cat not to scratch furniture. Get a scratching post. I believe there are also commercial sprays that are supposed to repel cats from scratching certain things, check that out.

  9. If you tried to declaw an animal yourself you would be charged with animal cruelty by the RSPCA and probably banned from owning animal for a long time.

    DO NOT EVEN ATTEMP IT.

  10. would you want to get your finger nails ripped out? me either

when you get your cat declawed thats what your doing.. reconsider teach her not to claw that would be better and less brutal
