How much does it cost to examine and repair a circuit short?

cannot turn on the lights, there is a burned wire in the fuse box, I think there is a circuit short somewhere. How much does it cost to repair it?

It's an hourly rate and it will totally depend how long it takes to locate and repair.It won't be that much though..

Be careful with the fuse box, the burned wire could have caused a major house fire. Do call a qualified professional electrician. The total cost will depend on the amount of time and material to make the repairs. Try to remember what was done just before the lights went out. Was something else turned on? Were you running some piece of equipment that you do not use often?  All of this information will help locate the problem so it can be repaired.  Since you have a fuse box, you should consider an upgrade to a circuit breaker panel and replacing all bad wiring if you wish to protect your home.  Much of the old wiring like the k**b and tube system is now very dangerous.

An electrician will start by opening up boxes that aren't working, and try to narrow down where the short is . If your house is rather old, and the wiring has been added to over the years it coud take some time.  But the hard job could still lie ahead, in replacing the burnt wiring.  This is something that needs to be fixed correctly.  Cutting corners here could lead to a fire.
