  1. Chrome is not a paint. It will cost an arm and a leg.

  2. I'm guessing you mean the whole car not just the bumpers. It would cost a fortune to do it not to mention a heap of weight it would add to the car. Also i think chrome parts have to be dipped not sprayed on meaning it would be almost impossible to do the body.

  3. You can paint a car chrome.  It's not real chrome, it's a high gloss paint that looks like a cross between chrome and stainless steal.  I stumbled across it by accident while doing google searches.  They typically only do it for show cars because it's harder to maintain, but it looks badass!!!   I believe the paint is fairly expensive and you're body work would have to be flawless or it will show.

  4. To paint a car a chrome color would be about as much as any typical paint job. However it will not be the chrome you see on a bumper. To get that kind of shine you would have to have the car chrome plated. To do that would cost you several thousand dollars. maybe even closer to ten thousand dollars. each body panel would have to be removed and stripped to bare metal so you cant have ANY dents because chrome will not stick to body filler. Your car would have to be in mint condition cosmetically to get a flawless chrome plated surface. Any dented body parts would have to be replaced with new ones. Just trust me... it would be wildly expensive.

  5. If it's not impossible, the cost would be stratospheric. First, although there are "metallic" paints (the paint contains tiny metal flakes and dust), "chrome" denotes a non-alloy metal but is not a paint itself. I know that you see spray paint cans with shiny caps, but if you want to be able to see yourself in it, forget it.

So let's say you do it on the cheap and want a mirror finish. Every bit of paint would have to come off, and body panels would have to be removed. You're into tens of thou if not six figures, since you'd have all the labor of taking everything apart and reassembly. Special order might be a way to go to cut back on labor, but the wait might exceed a year because the only people who would fool with this stuff are the custom car makers like Bentley or Ferrari, and their prices START at about $175,000. Then ever single piece would have to be electroplated. How many coats you want? Seven will likely be the minimum. Plus you'd have to pay double, since the whole part would have to be immersed in the plating tank. Then you'd be afraid to drive it. What price for a parking lot scratch or a shopping lot ding? Again, the whole part would have to come off to be plated. Winter? Forget it; have you seen what road salt does to chrome? You may be thinking of the famous Delorean from "Back To The Future," but that thing was stainless steel. And there's no such thing as a spot repair on all these beasts. Try to imagine what a major collision would cost--at least the car's original price, I bet.

The biggest obstacle is that the U.S. has no native chromium deposits,so we must import it from South Africa or Zimbabwe. No wonder chrome plated bumpers disappeared. And solid chrome body panels? Not only would a new one cost millions, but chromium is too soft to aid the frame gain some rigidity. The car would constantly be shaking itself apart, and every time some part would be replaced it would fit less and less well.

In short, the best thing you could do would be to buy one and build a museum around it. So then you still wouldn't have a car
