How much does it cost to get a customized license plate from the DMV?

Question

I thought that it would be sort of cool to get one of those for my birthday or something. First of all, what do you think of "PRNDL"? (Like on a gearshifter) everyone in my family calls it that and I thought it would be sort of cool to have that as a license plate, unless it's already taken, since not too many people around here have customized license plates like that.

Anyway, do you know how much it would cost to have a customized license plate?

BTW, you actually pronounce PRNDL as "Prendle" so I think that's kinnd of cool too.

OK rule #1.  We have 50 states.  We have 50 different DMV. We have 50 different rules and laws.  We have 50 different price.

It all depends on the state you live in, buck-o. In Virginia, a customized plate can run you only $10 extra with the standard mono-color, or maybe up to $50 if you want a specialized visual tag to go with the PRNDL ( Virginia has over 200 specialized tags, more than California! )

California I heard charges $100 extra for the special tags. Other states vary. So you won't get a good answer without naming your state.

Depends on the state. In VA it's about 20.00. May be more other states.
