I live in Auckland and think I have a cavity. As a student I'm pretty broke so was wondering how much I should expect to spend to get a filling?

  1. yeah dentists are blimmin expensive!!

but go to the supermarket and look for bottles of listerine, i just got a bottle last week (in christchurch) and on the lid was a voucher thingy to send away to get a free dental check or clean! that'll cut off the $50-$90 portion then if you do need a filling it'd just be the other rip-off part left

  2. go to the dental school man its so cheap and they are awesome i got a root canal last year for $123 and was falling asleep in the chair while the were doing it.

  3. If you're under 18 or still at high school, free. Otherwise any where between $80-$140. I'm not sure if Auckland has a dental school, but if it does you can put your name down and they'll call you up when they can (it might take 6months+) and it's either free or extremely discounted. Get it fixed now before it gets any worse though.

If you're a University student, get course related costs if you havn't already. Your health is most important. I know at Vic Uni they have a money place where you can go. All students put about $10 from their fees and it goes into a pool for students who need urgent dental or optical care. You'll probably have to pay most of it back.

If you don't get a filling done now you may need a root canal and they're extremely expensive!

    ...

  4. If you're a student definitely ask at the Student Union - they probably have suggestions. I know the Peoples Centre (I think that's what it's called?) has special arrangements with some dentists for low-income earners and WINZ sometimes assists with emergency dental treatment (not relevant to you I know) but yeah, I'd say your best bet is to ask someone at Uni (or wherever you go) for advice.

  5. About $50 - $90 for a checkup then $80 - $140 for a filling, they're not cheap.

  6. about 60dollars   ask the dentist if you can pay it off     i do that...

  7. Last filling I had was about $220. Don't do what I did when I was younger and didnt get things like this sorted. It has led to bad teeth now costing me a fortune. A lot of dentists will allow you to pay it off. Just ask if that is an option.
