Question:

How much does it cost to get english field boots tailored?

I have a horribly hard to fit leg and I am on too much of a budget to get custom boots. My calf is about 17" at the widest part, but since its all muscle I am slinder just below the knee - about 14". On top of that I have extremely short legs so boots never seem to be wide enough at the point where my calf actually sits in the boot.

I am thinking about buying a pair that I like that are on sale (even though I know they wont fit my calf) and then taking them to a boot repair place (who has experience on equestrian boots) and having him put in zippers, gussets, ect.

Has anyone out there done this? were you happy with the result? What was the cost?

Thanks!!

  1. I have taken my daughter's boot to a shoe & luggage repair guy we have here in mid georgia.  It was years ago but I know that it was surprisingly reasonable.  Just a few dollars per boot if I recall correctly to put an elastic gusset in.  Probably not much more to put a zipper.
