  1. Here's another pointless question - how do you know that you have a virus?  Did you run a virus scan?  Maybe you've got some spyware go9ing around.  Maybe you downloaded a bunch of programs that are running in the background.

Here's the thing - until the mid '90's, people made viruses for fun - they weren't effective against a lot of machines at the same time because there was no internet available connecting large numbers of consumer machines.  Sometimes they found there way into large business or government servers, but the intent was usually just vandalism of a kind.  With the internet, thgat all changed, and virus transmission became so easy that the profit-making changed the motive - you could get money out of people.  Only that meant that viruses had to cover their tracks, stay silent and not draw attention to themselves.  The days of Mona Lisa popping up on ten million computers at the same time, that's over.  So I tend to be skeptical when people blame catastrophic damage to their system on a virus, especially when they don't describe what kind of system it is (umm, some kind of IBM Compatible - does that help?) or what they may have done recently right before the weird stuff happened.

If your system is being very slow (even when not connected to the internet or doing online apps) you may need more RAM or at least just replace the stuff you have.  Your HD may have been corrupted, or maybe it's just overstuffed - even without a virus, an HD can grind to halt if its nearing max capacity.  I recommend restricting the HD to 85% total capacity.  Once you have that - defragment the HD.  Do you have too many unneeded programs on your PC?  Go onto the control panel, hit "add/remove software" and get rid of whatever you don't need.

What kind of software do you use?  Your not one of those guys who buys a thousand dollar computer and then skimps on $40 for a good anti-virus program are you?

If it is a virus, and you can't get rid of it, all you really need to do is replace the HD and the RAM.  Hoepfully you don't have a video card, because the RAM in there is supposed to be able of concealing viruses also, but I don;'t know how easy it is just to replace the RAM.

  2. It's "laPtop" with a P. As in: a computer used on top of your laP. Where does that even come from?

With no information none of us could possibly know what's wrong with it or how much it would cost to fix. Sorry.

  3. Totally pointless question, how do anyone know what laptop you have, and what the fault is ? if anyone can answer this, they really should be playing lotto as they have the ability to see things no one else can.

  4. Wel it depends wat the prob is. You can call the company and find out the problem and you can fix it with them.

  5. Depending on what the problem is, it's often cheaper to buy a new one.

  6. It depends on what kind of laptop it is and what happened to it.

Our laptops have been through helllll. :)

One was just not working well. (very slow, virus's  etc.)

If that is similar to your problem....we got it fixed for $50. it would probably cost anywhere from $50 to $100.

Of course there may be problems with your laptop that might not be "fixable" water/liquid damage is one that is pretty much impossible to fix because it pretty much fries the "brain" of your computer. =/

Anyway.....no matter what the problem is...I doubt it would cost any more than $200. :)

One more thing : I know it is inconvenient but removing Service Pack 2 helped my laptop A LOT more than anything they did at the shop.

    Hope I  helped you.

    Take Care,

    Madeleine
