  1. if your talking about getting married it cost for the application to get married and the ceremony and if you are talking about driver's license it cost 9 dollars and if it is your social security card it is free

  2. That was my problem in California. It was so expensive. Once I moved to Arizona, I had my last name changed and you just needed to pay $230 for all the court fees (the easy part of the whole name change process) and just the $9 fee for the Driver's License change. Once the judge approves of your name change, you get your new Social Security card (free), but all the other paper work to your school, loans, banks, bills, etc. etc. takes  a while to get to, and most of the time you need either your new Social or your copy of the court documents signed by the judge.  Overall it was about less than $300 for my last name to be changed. I didn't get married or anything, I just had it changed because I've always despised my last name and the father attached to it.

But again, this is just in the state of Arizona in Maricopa county... it might be different in different counties, and it's different from state to state, like in California, all the rules are different depending on the state you live in. You'll just have to check online for your state.

  3. Contact your local Court. They have all the info on that

  4. Unless you put it in your question, we can't tell what country you are in. It is the most frustrating thing Yahoo does. It doesn't matter if you go into domestic Yahoo or one of the International Yahoos - UK, Australia, Canada, India - all of the questions in English go into one big "pot".

In my state, California, you call the clerk at the county courthouse. You fill out a form and pay $320. You also take out a Legal Notice in a local newspaper for four weeks. That cost is in addition to the $320. If no one objects, you get your decree.

Every time you apply for a new passport, driver's license, etc. you will need to mail in or show a notarized copy of the decree. If you have to mail one in and don't get it back, chalk up another $25 or so.

The procedure is the same in all counties in California, although the cost may vary. I suspect the procedure is about the same in most states in the USA, although the cost and the length of time may vary.

If you are in the UK, say so and one of the UK people will explain deed polls to you.

  5. Very little
