  1. As you're going to NEU Ulm

(and not to Ulm as Alwin E thought - they are 2 different cities, divided by the river Danube. Neu Ulm belongs to Bavaria and Ulm belongs to Baden-Württemberg)

you only have to buy the Bayern ticket. It's 27 Euros for five persons, valid from 9 am to 2 am the next morning. It doesn't matter if the persons are related to each other or not, it neither doesn't matter what ages these people are. It has to be signed by the holder of this ticket and when you get checked just show this ticket and tell the conductor who belongs to you. No problems at all.

Have fun. But be aware that this ticket is only valid in Bavaria and not in other areas. If going to Baden-Württemberg you will need another one, called the Baden-Württemberg ticket - same procedure as the Bavarian one.

  2. 27 Euros for the whole bunch of five. They call it the Bayern-Ticket. But as I said in another posting: Ulm is in Baden-Württemberg, not in Bavaria, although right at the border. So maybe you'll have to buy a short-distance ticket for a train or bus to get where you want, and that will be something between 2 and 3 euros EACH. The Bayernticket is a ticket for a group of people, that means, you'll get ONE ticket, and ONE of you holds it and shows it up when you get checked.

It doesn't matter if you're students or not. The Bayernticket is already at such a low rate, you'll get no further discount. It's intended for groups of students, or young families, who otherwise couldn't afford a day trip.

    edit:

Sorry, I really missed the "Neu". Yes, Neu-Ulm is in Bavaria, Ulm is on the other side...

(Been to both of them, but not by train)
