My bro inlaw had 4 teeth pulled and it was $1000 dollars. I thought it was about $100 dollars a tooth. Did he get ripped off?

  1. Yes he did. Its free actually...Bit of thread and a strong door...

  2. I doubt that your brother in law was ripped off. In reality, it depends on how the teeth were in the mouth before the extraction. Were they in an unusual place? Under the bone? Positioned horizontally?

Did he see a general dentist or an oral surgeon?

There are two categories of tooth removal: "routine" and "surgical." Surgical means that the dentist had to cut the tooth into chunks to remove, remove bone, or place stitches. As such, surgical cases usually cost more than routine cases. Wisdom teeth are often surgical extractions because they are more often impacted (under the bone).

Of course, costs also increase if your brother in law opted for nitrous oxide (laughing gas) administration or IV sedation (being "put to sleep" for surgery).

I hope this helps to clarify.

  3. With insurance it will cost you like $25 but without it that is not a un-realistic price

  4. It can be for free if you're clever.  Go to a bar and p**s off a biker dude and have him knock your teeth out with a well-placed punch.

  5. duh

  6. The price varies from state to state, and depends if it is done by a general dentist or a specialist.

Here in Maryland, the fee for one SIMPLE extraction is @$150-$200.  Keep in mind there may be additional charges for an exam, xrays and anesthesia.

Also, some extractions are more complicated and even require dental surgery.  Obviously these procedures will cost more.
