How much does it cost to keep a horse per year in western ny?

i have the place to keep the horse already, and i don't need the farrier. I also won't be taking riding lessons.

  1. farrier and board excluded, assuming it is full board, then you will pay:

    fly spray-$100-200 year

    vet-min. of $175 a year most likely $250 a year for biannual visit

    Misc. Equitment.-$200+(broken bucktes, clips, etc.)

    Cleaning supplies-$40+ a year(shampoos, sponges,)

    Hoof care-$20+(thrush killers, moistiners, etc.)

    Leather/breakaway halter-$30+

    Medical supplies-$50 a year

    extras that pop up tend to amount to around $150 +. so in total you will expect to pay at least:

    $840 a year in additon to your board, farrier, and gas bill to get there.
