  1. It will cost you 1000 dollars, i accept cheques and Visa card. Thank you.

  2. First off you would need to make sure your home is zoned agriculture, if it's residential only then having a pony in the backyard isn't legal. Also, the law requires an acre for horse. A small pony might do alright on 1/2 that but will need plenty of forage.

As for cost...Hay has gone up very much in price. Expect to pay around $15 a bale which will last a week. Then there is feed with an average cost of $10 per bag, again lasting a week. So, feeding expenses alone will run you atleast $100 a month.

Keep in mind vet and farrier care too. The ponies hooves will need trimmed every 6-8 weeks, which varies from $20-$40. An annual negative coggins test is required by law, costing around $30 without the vet's exam fee and trip charge. Vaccines are recommended every 6-12 months, especially west nile/ encephalitis in Florida due to the mosquitoes. Also, a dewormer should be given every 1-3 months to prevent parasites. Dewormer brands should be rotated to cover all parasites and range from $5-$15.

Having a horse is expensive. I know I live in Florida and own one. If you have your own land you are lucky to avoid boarding fees, but there is responsabilty. Shelter, bedding, clean constant water source, excercise, feeding, etc.

To get a a more precise dollar amount call equine vets in your area and get their prices. Same with the farrier. You will want to esablish a good relationship with both. If your yard isn't very big then more hay will be needed. The pony will need constant grazing and your yard will end up bare if enough forage isn't provided. Florida is so sandy that many horses develop colic. Weekly bran or metamucil should be added to feed to hel them digest it. Emergencies like colic will come up so keep money aside for that. Good luck!

  3. OK first of all keeping a pony in your backyard is not a good idea!!! it's really not fair to the pony they need LOTS of room to run even though they're not as big as horses it's easier to board them @ stables anyway I know it's expensive but really if you don't have the money to board a pony then you shouldn't have one =P I know it stinks to hear this but if you don't have the cash to board then you couldn't pay for:

    feed,leads,halter,bit,saddles,brushes,... bills and shoes

horses are REALLY expensive just feed can get up to 300 bucks a month!! I know alot of $$ right?

but if you know a barn around where you live ask the owner if you could work there in exchange for being able to board you horse there that's what my friend does and it works for her =)

now you just have convince your parents =)

    Good Luck=)
