I cannot give you an answer for the particular area you mention, but for another Central American country bordering there, here's a mild example of the cost of living: Gasoline is about $3.50/gallon in Missouri with minimum wages about $6.50/hour. Gasoline in Guatemala is about $5.50/gallon and most jobs (if there is one...) pay about $ .50/hour (for hard labor!). Hmmm... where did all those rumors about 'how cheap it is to live in them places' get started?! No wonder it's so hard to make it there!!!
