Question:

How much does it cost to lower a bike?

I just bought a '08 CBR 600 today and asked them to lower it 2 inches for me so that my feet will touch the ground comfortably. However, they said it will take about 2.5hrs and will cost me $150 dollars. Is that a good price or are they trying to rip me off? Is it good or bad to lower a bike? I'm 5'8" and my feet touch the ground ok (just the balls of my feet and not the heel, I'm not tip toeing or anything) Should I just leave it alone?

  1. Thats a pretty good deal including labor.

The lowering link, shorter kickstand, and handlebar spacers will cost about $150 altogether to do it yourself.

  2. If its a brand brand new bike, it will lower itself over the coming months. The seat foam will compress and the shocks will loosen slightly. At 5'8" you wont have any problems.

Or eat a few more pies and your weight will lower it for you.

  3. That's not a bad price at all.  You might want to wait and see how much the bike (seat/shocks/etc.) lower on their own after riding a while, since you can touch fairly well or just go down 1".

  4. Its free if you do it your self.

At your height, I would just leave it.

  5. It would cost you close to $150 to do it yourself properly.

So it is not a bad deal depending on how your dealer plans to lower it.
