How much does it cost to neuter a cat?

A stray cat has been hanging out around my house for months (neighbor has a barn with feed in it so it had been eating in there a bit and getting into my cats food despite efforts to keep it out) and I've decided that I'll just keep it. He's a real sweetheart, but when he's near my female cat, he wants to mate with her. She's fixed but he's not backing down. I figure I'll just get him fixed, but I don't know what it costs to fix a cat because mine came from the shelter already spayed. So, what is the price range for neutering a cat? I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm in NY state. Thanks.

  1. Roughly around $35. Check out the local Humane Society. They will be less expensive than a regular vet.

  2. Instead of asking us, who don't know...call up your local vet. you'll have to get its shots first. you're probably looking at anywhere from 50-150 depending on where you live

  3. You can usually go to the humane society or some shelters for low income neutering.  I just recently got a cat spayed at my vet and it cost $250 plus medication.

  4. It can vary by a lot.  Call around and mention that he's a stray you're adopting, it might get you a better price.  And remember that he'll need to get his vaccinations before getting fixed, so ask about those prices too. He should also have a check up and a blood test to make sure he's healthy now.

Cheers to you for helping him out!

  5. Call around and compare prices. Maybe the local ASPCA can offer a discount for feral cats. I know California does 10 dollars for feral program.

  6. Well, regular vet clinics can be a bit pricey, best thing to do is just call your local vet and see what the fee is.

If it seems a bit out of your price range, contact your local shelters/rescues as they often provide a low cost spay/neuter program. :)
