  1. A new engine could mean a completely re manufactured Long block or the engine you have completely disassembled and rebuilt. Both have there advantages and disadvantages.

A factory reman. may have a better warranty, be available quicker, and usually cost more.

A rebuild of your current engine will take longer, use existing parts that have been reconditioned, or replaced, and can have different length warranties, depending on the shop.

Labor rates should remain close to the same, the average is 12-16hrs, depending on the amount of additional work that is needed to remove and replace other related parts, like radiator, clean out old valve cover, oil pan, etc.

Expect to pay $2000+ for a reman short block and head, and $1250-1700 for a rebuild, plus labor, and extras like fluids, hoses, ignition system components (plugs, wires) as well as radiator, and thermostat.
