  1. I have to agree with paul on this one.

The house I rent in D15 (4Bed) is average and on the market for 600K€ or 800K$...

Cars are more expensive here than continental Europe (30/50%) and traffic in Dublin is a nightmare anyway...

Inflation is comming back and with the latest rises in interest rates, more people are feeling pressured and many might not be able to afford anymorehikes. Time will tell...

On the bright side Irish people never loose their sense of humour about it, are still jolly and drink like there's no tomorrow...

  2. A lot. Dublin is very expensive. If you're buying property you will get a shoebox-sized apartment in Dublin for the price of a good-sized suburban house in the US. An ordinary suburban house in a reasonable area of Dublin could cost the best part of a million Euros, or upwards of a million depending on the area.

Rental isn't as expensive as it was though.

There is talk of some kind of collapse in the Irish property market. (However, they've been saying that for years.)

The cost of living in Dublin is very high compared to most parts of the Euro-zone and inflation is a problem at the moment as well. The weakness of the dollar vis-a-vis the Euro won't help either.

If you're on a limited budget you might be better off renting than buying. Rental is comparatively good value and you have a good choice. (Irish people don't like paying rent--they call it "dead money.")

If I were in such a situation and I owned property in the US, I would keep it and rent it out while living in a rental in Dublin. A lot of Irish people are buying property abroad, including the US, because it is so expensive in Ireland.

    Hope this helps.
