How much does it cost to rent a car in Mexico?

For about 2 weeks, since the family lives in dirt roads up the mountain, im thinking to rent an SUV or truck something high, and I actually want to maybe travel to Cancun. We will be in La Huacana, Michoacan, Mexico.

SUV's tend to be expensive. You can get a car likely for about $20 a day where a full sized SUV might well be around $80-$100.

What's the airport you are flying into? Guadalajara? Well whatever, I'd say just go to all the car rental/travel websites you know (Hertz, Avis, Alamo, hotwire, expedia etc.) and enter your dates and the airport code and get quotes. You should get the best price that way, book it in advance because once you are there an need a car they don't really need to be competitive with the pricing.

If you are using a gold card and expecting that you will have car rental insurance be sure to check with that card company as many do not cover Mexican insurance (though some do). If find that your card does cover you it's not a bad idea to print off that part of the user agreement to bring with you so that you have the proof of insurance and a number to call if you have any problems. If you are not sure that your card will cover you then just take the insurance offered by the rental agency.

That will depend on if you rent at the airport, for how many days, the type of car, etc.  I understand it is a good idea to arrange the rental before you get to Mexico.

My understanding is that rates are about $30 per day, pretty pricey for an extended stay. Most of these can be purchased at the rental agency when you arrive.  If you are driving, I suggest using the major rental agencies in the US and obtaining Mexico auto insurance from a third-party for lower rates.

Suv? For dirt? I rented a suburban in Guadalajara for a week,100 dlls a day!!! They aint cheap! U can get a platini little car for 30-50 a day!
