I'd say a $1000 guitar and a piano that is good enough for concert performance ($2000 keyboard).

  1. Unless you live somewhere near a music metropolis or are playing at a piano/rock bar, your chances of renting a guitar/piano of the grade you are looking for is slim.  It wouldn't be cost effective for a rental company to rent out such pricey instruments (if they get broken, the company looses money).

I, though, have a better solution.  Visit your local Guitar Center (you might have to drive a couple hours, but it is worth it).  Find a guitar/keyboard that fits your needs (tone, glimmer, s*x appeal, ect).  The plan is to buy it, use it, then return it.  You need to also buy the warranty (it is also refundable when you return it) for another hundred bucks just in case you break it or scratch it.  When you buy the warranty, you also get another 30 days to return the guitar.

It is the exact same thing that football fans do during the superbowl: buy it, use it, return it.

Doing this will only cost you gas, which may be your only option.

-By the way, you cannot rent a piano, they go out of tune every time they are moved and are costly to retune and move.
