How much does it cost to repair the balance on a vinyl window?

I don't even know if I'm phrasing that right. :) I'm buying a house with some good-quality vinyl windows, but about four of them won't stay up -- or stay closed! My realtor says this is a problem with the window's "balance." How much would it cost to fix this?

I hope you find an answer to your question. The only experience I've had with the problem is when we built a house and the windows we installed had defective balances in them and we had to replace them. They were tilt in windows and the balances weren't difficult to change, but from reading on some sites the ones that are not tilt in, the balances can be difficult to get to. The ones we had were adjustable so I would assume that the ones in your windows that won't stay closed just need adjustment. The window company supplied the replacement balances for us, and the ones in your new house may have some kind of warranty if they are defective. ...Good Luck...

Additional: I was assuming the windows were single hung when I said the ones that wouldn't stay closed may need adjustment. sorry if it might have caused confusion.
