Our apartment is about 750 sq. ft and we would only have it in one room, probably set to just comfortable (65-70) and only run it durring the day. About how much would this cost for your average, cheap A/C?

(my mother-in-law says it's only $20 but I don't believe that!)

  1. why dont you buy one instead of renting??

  2. This is really hard to answere as electricity rates are different depending on where you live and some utilities have demand on different usage during peak (high load) times.

But for example lets use a 10000 btu cooler which uses about 3000 watts per hour.  In my area that would be a 3kw load or if running constantly during the summer months 3kw per hour for apprx 10 hours a day at 4 cents per kwhr.  That would equal 10x3x4 perday or 1.20 per day.  that comes out to over 30.00 a month in my area if it ran continuously.  Most dont and the cost is about half that per month but if it wasnt sized right or bigger or smaller it could cost you more or less.

Best caculation is wattage in kw x price per kw x hours of operation to give you a average or close price.

    1000 watts or 1kw = about 3300btu or3.3kbtu

    Hope that helps

  3. im guessing for 1 day would be about 30-40 dollars it all depends. but you mother in law could be right because it costs 10 cents for an hour to let electricity run. like a radiator would use up electricity and that is 10cents per hour. i looked that up on the internet and asked my dad. (hes an electrician)

but im guessing it would be less because it does use electricity but you dont need as much as if you use for a lamp or a radiator or anything else.
