How much does it cost to send a small letter from UK to France?

I know there's already a topic for this, but it still wasn't clear to me.

I have myself a few European stamps (however, it says it's for Postcards.)

They are 42p. Is that enough to send to France from UK? My letter is A6 size (basically, a quarter of A4) and it only has 3 sheets in it.

I've also checked on Royal Mail and it says 48p for a Postcard instead of 42p... I'm so confused.

A british friend sent me a letter of three A4 pages with 44p !

I think 42p will be OK here :)

its safer to put a 63p stamp on it
