Sending it is free, you're doing it from your computer presumably.

Receiving the message might cost the recipient some money (depending on the phone's capabilities (e.g. WLAN is free if available), data plan, ...)

Usually incoming emails cost the same as an incoming text or picture message.  So if you have an unlimited plan, you are good to go.
