How much does it cost to swap an engine?

I want to do a complete engine and transmission swap on a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta and have no idea how much it costs. Also, if you know of a place to get the engine cheap besides a junkyard that would help. Thanks.

About $550-$1500.Check with Luxary Auto parts in lincoln al.They also have a web site.

If you're having someone else do the swap, let them find the parts for you. If you supply the parts and they don't work, than they aren't likely to refund your labor costs. It's not their fault you supplied them with inferior parts. If they supply the parts, any reputable shop will stand behind them for a minimum of 30 days. Yes, it'll be more expensive, but it's the only proper way to do it. After all, you wouldn't take steak to a steak house and ask them to cook it would you?
