Actually, the cheapest way to travel would be to book a seat and a room with a bus tour to Paris. You would get the transportation and a room for a couple of nights for a very cheap rate, cheaper than a train ticket. Then, when the bus tour is ready to go back to Berlin, just don't go; they can't make you go, and they won't really care.

The cost usually depends on your itinerary, but the cheapest and fastest way from Berlin to Paris is one of the low-cost airlines. Both EasyJet (easyjet.com) and Air Berlin (airberlin.com) fly Berlin/Paris. I highly recommend Air Berlin! Although they are considered "low cost", their service is much better than any of the domestic airlines here in the US.

An alternative is also the train. You can take the German High Speed train (ICE) to Cologne and from there you take the French bullet train (Thalys). It takes around 9 hours and it might be a little expensive than flying, but you get to see much more and can even stop and see Cologne.
