  1. I recently replaced 9spd shifters w/ with used DuraAce.

My bike's was originally Ultegra.  And I was replacing right rear shifter levers about every 8000 miles.  The next to last time I went with a new 105 because of cost.  The shop suggested next time go with Dura Ace for longevity and reliability.

The 105 worked fine but was always more effort and less smooth to the Ultegra.  This was obvious since the left lever was still Ultegra.

When this left shifter, shift front less and lever lasts longer, started to feel tired, I went shopping for Dura Ace.  I found used ones on Ebay around $225ish each.  But was concerned about how used, beat?

Lucked out with my bike pal who had an old set.  Either from a switch to campy, or sram or upgrading to 10 spd; he's one of those...

Anyway, I like the look and feel of the Dura-ace.  I know a few others that have also experienced wearing out 105s and Ultegra shifters.  I havn't heard the same about Dura-ace.

  2. Ultegra SL Double - $800~$1000

    Dura-Ace Double - $1250~$1500

Price depends on many different things that can run in a group - all prices are 8pc groups including brakes.

  3. It is a bit hard to answer your question because there are so many parts you can replace.  For example, the Ultegra and Dura-Ace groups include bottom bracket, crankset, brake/shifters, cassette, front and rear derailleurs, chain, wheels, etc.  Also, do you want to go 9 or 10 speed.  (9 speed stuff is somewhat less expensive.)

In any case, a 10 speed Ultegra group from Excel Sports is about $800.  This includes: bottom bracket, crankset, shifters/brake levers with cables and housing, front and rear derailleur, brakes, cassette and chain.  Somewhat lighter Ultegra SL is about $900.  The 10 speed Dura-Ace group is $1368.

Frankly, these are pretty big dollar upgrades.  If you have a shop do the work, it'll cost even more.  You will shave a bit of weight off your bike and get a bit smoother shifting, but personally, I am not sure it is worth the money and effort.  105 gear is good quality even if it doesn't have the same bling effect.

    Hope this helps.
