  1. That depends greatly on the airline, as well as the route you are flying.  Do you have status on any airlines?  If you don't get a first class seat from the get go, you may not be able to upgrade...as they may already be taken.

  2. your question is incomplete. the main thing to know, before replying is,that from where to where are u flying. in case u are asking in general, it would be about 10 times or slightly more

  3. Like most questions, the answer to this one is "It depends."

Where are you flying from/to? On what airline? What is the "fare basis" of the ticket you bought? And often the MOST important, what is your status (if any) in the airline's frequent flyer program?

Depending on those things, the answer could be anywhere from zero, nothing at all, to much more than your ticket cost to begin with.

Oh, except for one little thing. If you wait until you get to the counter to check in, it will very likely be to late to get an upgrade at any price.

  4. If you are checking in for your flight sometimes it can be very inexpensive.  For instance I flew Mexicana from LAX to Cancun, and asked about upgrades at the counter.  It was $150 (and that is for a 6-hour flight).  I originally had the cheapest coach fare.  Basically they would like to sell off those seats so if you ask before anyone else has....you might get lucky!

Also: when you're checking in online or on an airport kiosk, keep an eye out for a link to upgrade - sometimes this will also be inexpensive.  Keep in mind not every airline does this, or has availability.

  5. they will charge you cancellation and re-booking charges
