I live in the middle east and I'm thinking of moving to the states to study. Over here i pay around $35 to fill up my mustang. I heard it's really expensive to fill up petrol in America. How expensive are we talking here?

and another question......... if petrol is soo expensive in America, then why do a lot of Americans drive trucks?

  1. I think is part of Culture. Americans love big cars.

If oil will become more expensive in the future, America will substitute petrol for another kind of energy.

No matter what, America will always run big cars, because its road has been made for running, the cars need to be strong in case of collision.

  2. It depends on where you live. Here in Pennsylvania I fill up my  97 dodge ram truck, 22 gal tank for about 60.00 dollars. Its almost 3.00 a gal.

  3. Wow, it costs us £1.06 per litre in the UK which is approx $2.50 per litre. Can you send some over here for us!!!!

  4. Americans drive trucks because they think it projects a TOUGH, HARD WORKING image.  In reality a truck without a scratch on it and without a bed full of construction equipment projects a STUPID, WASTEFUL, POSEUR image.

Anyhow, they see it as a status symbol and they're willing to sacrifice a lot for that.  Also, many ignorant morons think that trucks are safer because they are bigger.  (When in fact they are generally LESS safe, in part because they are bigger)

Anyhow, gasoline is running around 3 dollars per gallon in the US right now.  Your mustang has what...a 17 gallon tank?  Should cost you around 50 bucks to fill up.  That could easily hit 4 dollars per gallon in some parts of the country this summer (or even 5 in some remote middle-of-nowhere gas stations, but those don't really count).

There are plenty of countries where it's still significantly more expensive.

  5. In florida i am seeing gas prices around $3.30 USD per gallon in some places and no sign of it getting any cheaper.

  6. My large V-8 truck holds 35 gallons of gasoline. I regularly spend $65-70 per fill-up.

I drive a truck because we tow a 4-horse trailer to horse shows once a month.

  7. Americans like power. They do not care about speed or handling. Just power.

The average is $3.05 per gallon. Some states go up to $6 per gallon.

Filling up a tank is more than $35 for most medium and large sized cars like the Mustang.

  8. i am going to repeat what one poster said

Americans drive trucks because they think it projects a TOUGH, HARD WORKING image. In reality a truck without a scratch on it and without a bed full of construction equipment projects a STUPID, WASTEFUL, POSEUR image.

also, my little car fills up with about 30-35 dollars.  i have neve in my life paid 40, except when i went to canada.

i have a plymouth neon, and previously i had a ford tempo.

in washington state (and the west coast) it tends to be higher than the rest of the country.....but MUCH MUCH less than europe or even canada.  I believe Mexico is about the same as the US too.
