  1. A friend of mine cancelled his membership before his contract expired two years ago. Said he had to move to another city and there wasn't a gym (In-Shape) in that city. He provided proof that he has a different address (a utility bill). The address was actually his brother's w/ his name on it.

  2. Did you sign a contract with the gym?  If you did, usually you have to pay a fee to cancel it.  If not, you usually just have to give them 1 month and then you can leave.  Those don't hurt your credit.

  3. if it is Bally's, you can't the only way out of that contract is death!

    It is BAD!!!!

  4. I had a friend who did this because she was

moving out of the country and a clause

stated that some sort of sickness, maybe

a note from a chiropractor, doctor that you

cant practice or exercise is valid to cancel

a gym membership that was the only way

she got out of it, she got a friend doctor

to give her an exam and a doctor note to

the gym. But ive known other people who

have done this and theyve gotten badk

points on their credit report its like cance-

lling your cel phone you have a cancellation

fee up to 500 dls. so if you dont pay that

it goes on credit report. Read the contract

its supposed to be clear in black & white.

  5. It won't hurt your credit at all.  All it means is that you might get hit with a cancellation fee.  It all depends on the contract you signed.

I bought a yearly membership to 24 Hour Fitness from Costco for $199.  I like the fact that I pay for it up front and they don't have my credit card.

  6. it won't hurt it as long as you do it by their rules and actually cancel it. Just don't stop paying the dues and assume that it will cancel it's self. If they do report your account on your credit it will show as paid as agreed, as long as you abide by their cancellation terms, and pay any cancellation fees.

  7. How would that hurt your credit?

Unless, somehow the other the gym pulled a file, but I also think if you didn't owe them anything, they can't do anything...

Elaborate how they made you signup for the membership?

  8. just canceling it won;t make the debt go away - you're probably making payments to a finance company - you will have to keep paying those until the full amount is paid off - I hate gym memberships - got caught in one of those in te 80's
