  1. you are looking way into the thousands

  2. If you're talking about having custom made dresses by a professional dressmaker, you might wind up paying as much as if you bought a dress from a store.  It really depends on so many different factors, the fabrics you choose, the pattern you choose, what/how many embellishments you want (ie: beaded lace on the train).

As far as finding a good wedding dress at a reasonable price, you might consider starting off at your local bridal shop.  I work as a bridal consultant, and have worked as a dressmaker in the past.  I don't know what you're considering expensive, but the bulk of the wedding dresses I sell from my store are in the $500-$1000 range.  Most of the bridesmaids dresses I sell are around $100-$150.  However, my sister bought her wedding dress off the clearance rack at a department store for $30.  It wasn't actually a "wedding" dress, it was an ivory dress with a gold glittery chiffon overlay.  Once she got a veil on, it looked like any other wedding dress out there.

Whatever you do, please please please please please don't buy your dress online, thinking you've got such a great deal.  I see these brides come in all the time.  They thought they got such a great deal, until they either a.) get the dress and it's NOTHING like what they ordered, or b.) don't get the dress and the company they ordered from is nowhere to be found.  Go to a bridal salon, and I'm sure you'll be able to find the dress of your dreams!  Best wishes to you!
