Question:

How much does it usually cost to get a sewing machine rewired?

I purchased a 1948 Singer sewing machine. It's in working condition but the cord is a little damaged. I want to get it rewired but have no idea how much that'll set me back. Do some places ever include this service in a flat rate tune up?

  1. This is a relatively simple job from what you are describing.  I take it that it is the power lead (from plug to electric motor that is damaged).  This repair should not cost much - typically would require a piece of wire, possibly a new plug.  Actual connection to motor is straight forward.

I would suggest that you look around for one of your friends who are handy with their hands - it would be well within their scope.

If on the other hand the motor is burnt out - well that is an entirely different story.  I doubt if parts for those motors are still available and it would mean finding someone who is willing to rewind the motor.  Not many people seem to do this as it is generally cheaper to replace than rewind when one considers small electric motors.
