  1. Just about 1 euro.  for diesel.  a little more for petrol.

It doesn't seem to have changed a whole lot in thirty years.

We found it wasn't terrbly expensive to drive, but much easier to take the trains, depending on the destination.  Renting a car was good for getting way off the beaten track, and doing things on our own schedule.  But parking is outrageous and difficult to get to in the larger cities.  (well, I was determined to park right near our hostel.  If you are smarter, and leave the car someplace easier to get to, and on the metro lines, then you'll have an easier time of it than we did).

  2. The cost of diesel is €1.06 per litre and petrol is slightly more. It has risen by about 7% over the last year, but it´s still cheaper than the rest of Europe.

If you would like to see the train timetable which will help with the cost and it is in English see below

As Sue says, parking in big cities is difficult. I live in Málaga and know my way around the city, but to a tourist it would be impossible.

The roads in Spain are excellent. It can be a pleasure driving on many motorways because many are much quieter than other countries.
