  1. Wow, a lot of people have said it hurts a lot.

    Now I feel guilty :[

Mine personally only hurt at about a 3 or 4/10, but if you keep them on for a long time (over an hour at a time) and you're working in them for that long, they tend to hurt at more of an 8 or 9.

This, of course, all while wearing toe pads.

  2. Okay, I've been on pointe for over a year, and this is what happened to me and all of my ballerina friends:

    1) pointe was "magical" for the first few weeks

    2) we started to get blisters and it hurt at about a 9

    3) we toughened out, and practiced

    4) now, it barely hurts (or atleast we barely feel it).

My bff from school is starting pointe, and she's always whining about how "painful" it is, but if you practice and work at it, you'll be the best and won't feel it after only a little while. Don't feel like your the only one in pain, because thousands of dancers before have gone through that same pain you're feeling, and they made it! Sorry I'm so into this, but it drives me crazy when girls just starting pointe cry and whine thinking that "no one knows how much it hurts!" but we all have felt that. But just think, the pain means it's working! And being in pain means that you can only get better! Good Luck!!!

  3. Depends on how strong your feet/ankles are, how suitable your shoes are for your feet, how much lambfleece you have wrapped around your tootsies and your attitude to pain.

Some girls whinge for weeks-others just get on with it without complaining.

  4. 10

  5. 9

  6. 8

  7. at first, you will feel some pain, but toe pads help. But, your feet need to toughen up. Eventually it won't be a problem.

  8. havnt done ballet, but if its anything like overtoe, (people have told me it is), id give it about a 6? but like the others have said, at first you dont notice, and after a while you get stronger and stop noticing it.

    good luck!

  9. Basically as soon as you get onto Pointe you don't notice the pain because you think its just so amazing and different. But after a few weeks the pain sets in and the novelty wears off. But over time, your feet and skin gets tougher and stronger and you don't really notice the pain so much.

But having the right padding and shoes its not too bad. I've been doing pointe for awhile and I still haven't found the perfect shoe for me, so you will go through lots of different pairs and some will hurt more than others.

Also-I feel that the longer you have done ballet the less it hurts because your stronger.

    I hope this helps :)

  10. It depends on the type of person, i know some people i dance with find it really painful like an 8/9/10 but others not so much. If you have the correct type of shoe for your foot, and have protection on your toes - i know some dance schools dont allow it, i am not allowed to use anything but animal wool but i usually go without - i find ouch pouches are the best with the gel, they numb your foot in a way, then you should be okay once you do the correct exercises and strengthen your feet and ankles.

Keep your toenails short and filed, and put toe tape round your toes to keep them straight & in line - also adds an extra "skin" to your feet to prevent blisters.

Doing pointe with blisters is the worst, using white spirit hardens your feet so you don't get as many if any blisters - making the whole pointe experience MUCH less painful!

  11. when you start, its a 7 or 8, but as you keep practicing, your feet toughen and the pain goes to a 1. Do some foot exercises and it won't hurt as much when you start.

  12. I have been on pointe for 2 1/2 years and the first year was....... I'm just going to say it h**l I sometimes would even cry it hurt so bad but now I can get on pointe for hours with no toe pads a it doesn't hurt at all so if you can make it past your first year you won't have to much pain hope this helps have a nice day sincerely your fellow ballet dancer =^..^=

  13. 9, and I remember my feet bleeding

  14. 12... until you have built up muscle in your feet (takes a number of years).

when you have, 8. and you'll learn to ignore the pain.

  15. pointe work doesnt hurt that much- if you havent tried it and ppl have just told you that it hurts, they are over exaggerating but i guess it depends how you bear pain, how strong you are and how you protect your toes- jelly toe covers are the way to go :P, but as you break in the shoes ur ankles and the top of the ball of your foot may ache...

i would rate the pain 6/10
