What is the average/approximate (I realize they use a sliding scale based on station budget) syndication cost that public radio stations pay to air the radio program "Democracy Now!" A price range would be fine.

<<<please do not respond or leave comment if your reply is "google it", "search on google" or any variation thereof - thanks>>>

  1. This is about 2 years old but I believe we were paying ~ $3500/year (for a small-audience / non-NPR/PRI-affiliated station).

  2. OK then I won't say google it cause I did..

Basically from what I read on their website they are funded by private persons and such and give radio stations a free years use of it then the sliding scale they are talking about probably depends upon what the station is able to spend on syndicated programming such as this as most broadcasting this are non-commercial stations.

But unfortunately it's something that depends as you said on many different things that include budget but some also take into consideration population size being served etc) but my guess is no more than a few hundred dollars a year at most (with most getting the program for free as one of the stations it's on in my area according their website is a non-profit college station that barely has a budget to pay except for music royalties)

But only a email to them can answer that question totally.

Edit- To answer your additional question, cause most people who come on here don't look around and are not knowledgeable about this (as most who come are fans of a show and are trying to convince local stations to air it) . However unless you are truly running the program you can't know for sure as that's usually confidential information. And how many station operators are actually on here? Almost none or at least none that have come forward on many questions like this.

A better bet maybe posts on the radio forums radio-info.com and radioinsight.com where more radio personel hang out and can truthfully answer your question.
