I have to have this done next week, and I have no idea how much to expect. I have insurance, but I know that it won't all be covered. Also does anyone know if this is painful?

  1. Usually between $175 -$400 per quadrant (1/4 of the mouth) so time it by four for the whole mouth.....so @$700-$1600

  2. We charge $150 per quad which totals 600 for the whole mouth. This is a lower end price b/c I am in a small town. Larger towns may charge twice as much. If done at an actual Periodontal specilaist office it can be much higher. Insurance usually covers 80%. Most of you cost ends up being the deductible. At this price people are usually looking at $80-100 their part. It is often done in multiple appointments so they may let you break the payments up. It shouldn't be painful if done well. If any discomfort is expected or felt they will numb you or you can request it. Rinsing with hydrogen peroxide before bed prior to this often reduces gum inflammation and discomfort. I tell patients to swish, spit, do not rinse/eat/drink just go to bed. It works especially well b/c it bubbles much better into hard to reach places than alcohol. It doesn't taste great, but it is cheap and works. This is a good practice to keep up since you have gum problems. It works as a good insurance policy in case you miss anything when brushing or flossing. You just use it straight as long as done 1 time a day. Otherwise you may need to dilute it. You can also mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with another mouthwash like Listerine or Scope to help with flavor, or pickup some peroxide based mouthwash like Crest Whitening.
