  1. A V-6, no matter what it is will not tow very much in a full size truck. The truck might have a class 3 rating for the chassis and hitch, but a V-6 won't have enough power to pull heavy trailers since it still has to move the truck first. I would think that a safe guess would be no more than 3500 lbs gross trailer weight. The 4.6L V-8 might be able to pull around 5000 lbs gtw with the right equipment. If you need to pull more than that, you either need to get the 5.4L engine, or, get a 3/4 or 1 ton truck.

    I have 4 trucks that range from a Ford Ranger all the way up to a GMC dually with a Dodge W-100 and an Ford F-250 in between. I pull many different trailers from a small utility trailer up to a 36' gooseneck horse trailer.
