I feel that i pay an absolute fortune to drive these days with insurance, road TAX, petrol TAX, VAT on that TAX, Congestion charge TAX.

then, when i look at the roads around my house, i wonder what the money is spent on, it's certainly not the roads.

  1. They get none from me. I cycle LOL

  2. TOOOO MUCH !!!!!

  3. The roads around your house are the responsibility of the council, not the government, the government are only responsible for motorways and major trunk roads.

But you are right, tax raised from petrol, tax discs etc are not eamarked for roads, just like national insurance is no longer earmarked for pensions and welfare benefits.

The reason for this is Thatcher. From 1979 onwards, people voted at successive elections for lower direct taxation, ie income tax. But it all has to be paid for, which is why VAT and excise duties are high.

    PS no taxes are taxed.
