I read that JUST one mission to Mars was $420 million.

I was wondering about the yearly budget or how much total they have spent on the space program since it was founded.

Basically any stats or numbers you have on NASA spending would be great.

Also do you agree with us spending that much money on NASA?

  1. We should be spending much more than we are on space. If we're not going to focus on taking care of this planet and uniting as a people we need to be lookin for other homes:)

  2. I did a project on NASA this year. It gets about 0.6% of the federal budget. For what its worth I think this is woefully short of what it should be. It took up a much larger portion during the Apollo year though, but it was cut down by Nixon. When I see what they are doing with the little money they are getting now I can't imagine what they could do with twice or three times their current budget. We probably got a century ahead of ourselves when we landed on the moon and I have no doubt that had NASA been allowed to keep its budget we would be on Mars by now.

And for those that think that NASA project are too costly, did you know one B-2 bomber costs $2.2 BILLION! I like the whole keeping the world in line thing when it comes to military spending, but imagine if we had dropped the B-2 program and built the starship Enterprise Mark 1.
